Town Hall announces it's
2006 NOT JUST JAZZ series.
Starting
on Friday, February 17 at 8 pm with TANGO 1ST CENTURY. Join
the Romulo Larrea Tango Ensemble and 3 tango dancing couples as they present
the history, evolution and destiny of tango from Paris and les années folles,
to the unforgettable Carlos Gardel, to the golden years in the 1940's and
the contemporary tango of Astor Piazzolla.
An evening of good-time oldies on Friday, February 24 at 8 pm as we
present RICHARD NADER'S DOO WOP REUNION CONCERT. Stroll down memory
lane with Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge (16 Candles, Step By Step),
Fred Parris and the Five Satins (In The Still Of The Night), and Barbara
Harris of the Toys (Lover's Concerto).
On Friday March 3 at 8 pm see the band The New York Times calls the
"the best Latin Jazz group working" JERRY GONZALEZ &THE FORT APACHE BAND
and the four-time winners of Downbeat Magazine's Readers & Critics Poll
"Beyond Group of the Year who have been cited as the most influential modern
Afro-Caribbean Jazz group of the past 30 years will bring their unique sound
to The Town Hall stage.
Celebrate The Klezmatics' 20-year anniversary with the first ever career -
spanning retrospective, devoted to their own eclectic brand of klezmer and
Yiddish song for which they are world-renowned on Sunday, March 5 at
4 pm. THE KLEZMATICS: 20 YEARS LIVE! will be a historic event and
amazing celebration not to be missed!
AMERICAN FAVORITES: BERNSTEIN & GERSHWIN will take place on
Sunday, March 26 at 4 pm. Featuring the music and songs of Bernstein's
tour de force West Side Story (Tonight, Somewhere, Maria, and more) and
Gershwin's masterpieces Rhapsody in Blue and An American In Paris will be
brought to life by One World Symphony, a group of acclaimed musicians and
vocalists from around the globe, under the direction of Sung Jin Hong.
Grammy-Award winner Ralph Stanley brings his unique style of bluegrass music
to The Town Hall stage. On Friday, April 14 at 8 pm see RALPH
STANLEY & THE CLINCH MOUNTAIN BOYS and KING WILKIE. Stanley and
his band will be joined by the 2004 International Bluegrass Music
Association Emerging Artist of the Year, King Wilkie, who combine the
exuberance of youth with the finesse and style of musicians twice their age.
The Legacy continues on Friday, April 21 at 8 pm with SIMONE: LIVE
AT TOWN HALL - A TRIBUTE TO NINA SIMONE'S HISTORIC 1959 TOWN HALL
PERFORMANCE. Simone, star of Broadway's Aida and Rent, and daughter of Nina,
will pay tribute to her mother in a landmark event. Joined by Al Shackman
and the original Nina Simone Band, she will revisit that historic
performance, with her own distinctive style in what promises to be a magical
evening.
Music, memories and magic abound on Friday, June 2 at 8 pm with
RICHARD NADER'S DOO WOP REUNION CONCERT II. A star-studded night that
offers an up close and personal evening with Peaches and Herb (Reunited,
Close Your Eyes), Charlie Thomas' Drifters (Under the Boardwalk, On
Broadway), and the co-founder of Jay and the Americans, Kenny Vance and the
Planotones (Looking for an Echo).

NOVEMBER SPOTLIGHT
On Sunday, November
20, 2005 at 7 pm the World Music Institute presents PERSIAN MASTERS:
SHAHRAM NAZERI & HAFEZ NAZERI. Shahram Nazeri, one of Iran's most
popular singers, is known for his mastery of the Persian classical, Sufi and
Kurdish repertoires. Called "the Persian nightingale," he has appeared with
Iran's leading ensembles and is acknowledged for his deeply soulful
performances. In this program, he will perform vocal duets with his son and
disciple, Hafez Nazeri (setar - lute), accompanied by an ensemble of
musicians to be announced.

FEATURE FILM SEMINAR SERIES First Film: Nov 21 at 7:30 pm
Introduced in 1998, this series has become an audience favorite. Major
studio and independent films are screened; afterwards host, film critic/
author, Scott Siegel, leads a Q&A session. Producers, writers directors and
actors connected with the film offer behind-the-scenes stories and details
of the filmmaking process. Past guests have included: Peter Bogdanovich,
David Duchovny, Stanley Tucci, Mary-Louise Parker, Peter Gallagher, Rob
Morrow and Louise Lasser.
